Development Fees

District Overview


The North County Fire Protection District of Monterey County is a special district detached from County government. The majority of the District's revenue is property taxes collected from property owners living within its jurisdiction while a publicly elected five member Board of Directors governs poy and financial concerns.

The District is 164 square miles of predominately rural land with a population of approximately 45,000. Within the boundaries are the growing communities of: Castroville, Moss Landing, Oak Hills, Pajaro, Prunedale, Elkhorn, Las Lomas, and Royal Oaks, four major highway (101, 156, 183 & 1), one railway, two rivers (Salinas and Pajaro), 9 miles of beach/water front, and one private airfield. The District is within 15 miles of four major medical facilities.




The District's three fire stations are strategically located. Station one is located in Castroville and houses the business office, maintenance shop, and training/meeting room. Station Two is located in Prunedale, six miles due east of Station One. Station Three is located about twelve miles north of Station One in the Royal Oaks area. It is the mission of the North County Fire Protection District of Monterey County to provide the highest level of service to protect the lives, property, and the environment of the North County community, by providing prompt and professional services in the event of fire, medical emergency, rescue, environmental disaster or any other event which threatens the public welfare.
