Reserve Recruitment

The North County Fire Protection District continuously accepts names of those individuals interested in our Reserve Firefighter Program. All interested persons are encouraged to submit an Interested Reserve Card with our department. This can be done either in person, telephone, mail, fax (831-633-2572), or e-mail a completed reserve card to kim.overman@ncfpd.org or C5202@ncfpd.org.  For more information on the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), please visit the CPAT testing center's website.

Interest cards are kept until the District is prepared to begin the recruitment process which is approximately every 18 months. Because the North County Fire District hires it full time Firefighters from its pool of Reserve Firefighters, the District's hiring process for Reserve Firefighters is extensive and lengthy.  Some components are listed below:

Mandatory Orientation

Written Test

Physical Abilities Test (CPAT)

Oral Board Interviews

Fire Chief's Interviews

Alcohol/Drug Panel Screening

Medical Examination

Background Investigation

At this time, the District offers an in-house Reserve training academy which is detailed in length during the mandatory orientation. However, many neighboring community colleges offer excellent program as well. Please reference Monterey Peninsula College or Cabrillo Community College for more information on their specific Firefighter Academy programs.
