Burn Permits

Burning Household Garbage Is Against the Law!

The North County Fire Protection District is responsible for enforcing rules and regulations governed by the Monterey Bay Air Pollution Control District. This includes burn season as well as burn materials. No material other than naturally grown clippings (i.e., branches, grasses, flower cuttings, etc.) can be burned at any time. All other materials, including sawn lumber such as fencing and/or pallets must be disposed of in an alternate manner such as composting or landfill.

The District's current fee schedule requires District staff to invoice property owners for the reimbursement of actual costs to respond to illegal burning .
Do not burn any material other than that which has grown on your property. Do not burn out of burn season. Do not burn without the proper permit.
