The North County Fire Protection District continuously accepts names of qualified individuals who are interested in our Reserve Firefighter Program. All interested persons are encouraged to submit an
Interested Reserve Form. Interested reserve forms received from qualified applicants will be kept by the District for two years. Please submit a completed interested reserve form in person, mail, or email to
Gina Young. You are responsible to notify the District immediately regarding any changes to your contact information especially your primary e-mail address where notifications are sent.
Qualifying Applicant MUST:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a current EMT or Paramedic Card
- Hold a valid Class C (or better) CA Driver's License
- Hold a High School Diploma or GED
- Be a resident of our Tri-County area who lives within 20 minutes of any North County Fire District Station. Please reference our Station page for location reference.
UPDATE TO PROGRAM: Effective July 1st, 2010, there were changes made to the Reserve Firefighter Program: Class II Reserve Firefighter has been discontinued and all reserve firefighters must now reside within 20 minutes to any of our three fire stations located in Castroville, Prunedale, or Royal Oaks. Secondly, there is a medical requirement of all incoming reserve firefighters. A current valid EMT card will be required to obtain an employment application during the testing period. A current CPAT card, an EMT card or paramedic's license must be submitted with each application along with a high school diploma and a valid driver's license.
EMT classes are offered through Monterey Peninsula College, Hartnell College, Cabrillo College, and other training institutions. For more information to obtain the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), please visit the CPAT testing center's website.
The District's hiring process for Reserve Firefighters is extensive and lengthy. Some components are listed below:
